The Aspirus Great Deer Chase showcases the Swedetown Recreation Area summer trail system. Proceeds support the continued creation and maintenance of mountain bike trails at Swedetown as well as a bike park near the Village of Calumet.

The 15- and 30-mile (no lap) races start at 11 a.m. EDT at the Calumet Colosseum on the east side of the building.

The roll-out proceeds through downtown Calumet and onto two-track at Swedetown. The short course is 15 miles and will have one aid station. The long course is 30 miles and will have two aid stations. Both courses are one lap only, the terrain is varied and over 50% singletrack.

The 15- and 30-mile races will finish on Oak Street, near the intersection of Oak and 6th Street.

For Single Speeders

The long course features the official U.P. Single Speed Championship. To compete for this honor, you must compete in the long course and ride a single speed. The top three male and female finishers will receive a trophy and bragging rights for an entire year. There are no age divisions for this race – if Single Speed racers wish to compete in their age brackets then do not check the Single Speed category.

Racers can register to ride in the single speed category in the short race as well.  The top three men and top three women finishers in the short course will be awarded prizes.  There are no age divisions in the Single Speed Short Course category.

The Kids Race Course (Fawn Chase)

The kid’s races will start at 9:00 a.m. EDT with registration Friday evening from 6:30-8 p.m. and Saturday morning between 7:30-8:30 a.m.

The kid’s timed races will start at the Swedetown Chalet and finish on Oak Street near Oak and 7th Street, near Carmelitas.

There is a 2.5-mile race for those youth ages 10-and-under and a 4-mile race for those 14-and-under. Parents are encouraged to ride with younger racers who may need a little encouragement. To include the youngest riders, the 40-yard un-timed Fawn Chase will follow the conclusion of the other kids’ races near the youth race finish line at 7th and Oak.

Please remember to yield to faster racers. Younger racers may compete in the 4-mile race but will be registered in the 10-and-under category for awards.

Awards, Other Events, and Amenities

The awards ceremony will be at 2:30 pm on Oak Street in front of Cross Country Sports for both kids and adults.

Changing rooms and showers are located in the basement of the  Calumet Colosseum (Red Jacket Road near Fourth).
